About Finntroll's influences & related bands

Postby Sanderz » Thu Feb 04, 2010 6:12 pm

With this topic I would like to know what finntroll's members think about the folk/black panorama in Europe. What they think about band like Trollfest, Equilibrium, Manegarm etc...
A question for TrollhorN: what's your favourite tracks of Danny Elfman's soundtracks? And what you think about the song "Callisto Rising" of Bal Sagoth?

I remember feeling very awkward when my friend told me he met the band after a gig one night, and asked them if Korpiklaani influenced them... it hurt me to think about it.

I enjoy the studio reports because there are always little sheets showing names of riffs and working titles for songs that are just other bands' names, it gives a bit of insight.

From a Jonne Järvelä interview:

Speak something about the musical direction Shaman had and the main differences with Korpiklaani. How did the shift to a more metal sound happen?
Most affected thing to shift to a more metal sound was my life with Finntroll. I learned a lot in those couple of years that I was on their gigs and "Jaktens tid" album. After that time it wasn`t return to old way to make music. [...]

So much about who influenced who ;)
One beer to rule them all.
One whiskey to find them.
One vodka to bring them all
and in the drunkness bind them!

And then he started Korpiklaani. Afterwards. That's like asking Tony Iommi if Manowar influenced him at all. "Yeah, way back in 1970, ten years before they even formed, they had a HUGE impact on us!"
