VIDEO GAMES

Postby WiCkEdRock » Fri Nov 06, 2009 11:25 pm

Video game thread! Maybe you could talk about WoW or something? People only seem to play that nowadays.

I just started playing Dragon Age: Origins. I'm a big fan of Western PC RPG:s, so I think this game is pretty damn great so far. It's basically Baldur's Gate with prettier graphics. The character creator lets you make some hideous main characters, too.

Anyone played Phoenix Wrights? Fabulous games, just fabulous! There's plenty of crimes to solve, and they are not always easy either.

PS: Hooray Manfred von Karma and the whole 4th chapter /,,/

It's hard to not have heard of that game if you've been on the internet for more than a few days. I don't have a DS, so I haven't been able to try it yet, but it looks fun.

Here is my female rogue BultGudrun Cousland from the recently mentioned game:

I don't play any MMORPGs, but I like console RPGs. ...Okay, I just like playing my favorite SNES games over and over XD I'm a fan of the old Final Fantasy games; haven't played anything past 8 though *is a failgamer*

I'm playing the fan translation of Mother 3 right now on the DS (Gameboy Advance)! Great series ;)

There's a bunch of us over here that play a lot of Left 4 Dead - 2 to 3 games a week, and we supply all 8 people for the versus. We've all also recently purchased Borderlands, but becuase of people having uni work due, we've not really done much with it. I am happily playing through single player though, and am quite enjoying it so far.

I have Dragon Age: Origins on pre-order... yes, you heard right, still on pre-order. I wanted a physical copy, seeing as its a single-player game (means that if I want to play it again a few years later, I won't need to re-download it if I uninstalled it), but the company I ordered it from shipped it the day before its release, "so that it arrives the day it hits the shelves". Except it's 4-5 days postage to Perth, from the eastern states. Srsly, post it out 4 days beforehand, if thats the case! ARGH!

Also, I need to find someone who is willing to buy me Left 4 Dead 2, and then gift it to me on Steam. Our censored version over here in Australia is utter bollocks, but if it's purchased outside of Australia (obviously not from Germany) and gifted, it'll be the full version. Might need to get onto Azash, and see if he's happy to hook a brother up! :D

A thing about Dragon Age: Origins is that you can get Downloadable Content on the first day of release. So they basically could've put that content in the game to begin with, but they want to make some more cash right off the bat. I wouldn't be so annoyed if it weren't for the fact that a character walks up to you and tries to sell you the DLC. God damn it, EA.

Why's Australia that tight on censorship? Isn't it a harsh country for harsh people? :P

Don't get me started...

The problem, in a nutshell, is this:

There is no R18+ rating for video games in Australia.

Our classification board is not able to introduce an R18+ rating without the support of the Attorney General of every state.

Without the R18+ classification, many games cannot be classified, and if they are refused classification it is illegal for the games to be sold in Australia.

There is one Attorney General, Senator Michael Atkinson, of South Australia, who is a bit of a cunt, and believes that by using his self-declared "power of veto", he is in fact saving the children of Australia from being exposed to violent video-games, and is saving them from some form of damnation that these computer games will bring. Unfortunately, he has just about the safest seat in the entire state, so he won't be voted out any time soon, and neither will his party. It's absurd that he has the power that he does, especially seeing as there is very much strong support for the introduction from every other Attorney General.

That's pretty much the issue with "video game censorship" in Australia; its not censorship as such, but the situation leaves the industry practically censored, for all intents and purposes. Then, there's the plan to install compulsory internet filters throughout all of Australia... but that's another issue altogether >_<

Rofl, shes hideous.

I'm a big PC gamer myself. Dragon Age: Origins doesn't lure me in enough though. (Like crap loads of other people) I'm waiting for Modern Warfare 2. I do ask though, how are you finding Dragon Age?
Currently playing Killing Floor, DoD: Source, Warcraft III (WoW sucks ass) and messing around on demos such as Torchlight and L4D:2.
Playing a bit of Final Fantasy: Dissidia and Crisis Core on PSP also.

And Wolfram. Sorry to hear about those censorship laws. That pretty much puts me off Australia as a career opportunity location :(
I also wouldn't mind buying you L4D2 on steam, provided you paid me on paypal first.
